Dear Friends,
This is it!
When we first released Lot 717, it was so popular and sold out so quickly that we reached out to our friends in Italy hoping to secure some of their next vintage. As luck would have it, they actually had more of the exact same 2015 offering in their cellars! We immediately arranged a deal for more. After that batch sold out we asked again, and took every remaining bottle they had left.
Freshly arrived from its journey across the Atlantic, Lot 717 is back in stock for the final time!
For those of you that missed it in 2020, here’s the original release info:
What exactly is a “Super Tuscan” wine, some of you might ask? Perhaps you’ve seen them increasingly popping up all over those annual “best of the year” lists and are wondering what the fuss is all about? Well, here’s the scoop!
Tuscany’s calling card red grape has always been Sangiovese, but in the 1970s a number of local winemakers were fed up with existing wine laws that prohibited them from producing high-end wines using grapes that weren’t indigenous to the area. Quietly, they began experimenting with “unsanctioned” grapes like Merlot and Cabernet. Long story short, the emergence and excellence of these wines couldn’t be ignored, and the laws were finally amended in the early 1990s, with the IGT designation being created to distinguish these high-quality nontraditional reds that didn’t fit in with the existing DOC standards. Good thing, too – grapes like Cabernet, Merlot, and Syrah absolutely thrive in the Tuscan climate, and these days there are plenty of world-class Super Tuscan red blends available on the market. The wines tend to be big, rich, and often pricey – triple digit prices aren’t uncommon.
Sourced from a gorgeous coastal estate built in the early 1800s on the hills overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea, Lot 717 Super Tuscan is a dynamite 80/20 red blend of Sangiovese and Syrah, produced from organic vineyards planted in alluvial soils with plenty of sun and sea breeze exposure. Aged for 12 months in oak barrels, this 2015 vintage beauty still drinks young, and has many years ahead of it to develop even more complexity. Just outstanding.
At $20/bottle, it’s a third of what you’d expect to pay for a wine like this elsewhere. Italophiles – you want this.
The New Release special pricing is in effect – take 15% off any order of one case or more through Friday night at midnight (Wine Club members get 20% off) as long as the order includes one bottle of Lot 717 (mix and match the whole store!).
As always, if you have any questions or need assistance with your order, please don’t hesitate to email us or call 800-805-1971.
Cheers!
