INTRODUCING THE 2020 BEAU MARCHAIS CLOS PEPE VINEYARD OUEST PINOT NOIR!

We are thrilled to introduce the 2020 Beau Marchais Clos Pepe Vineyard Ouest Pinot Noir!
This wine follows in the footsteps of the hugely successful 2019 bottling. The 2020 Clos Pepe Ouest Pinot Noir is, in our opinion, even better than its predecessor. We realize that this is a familiar refrain – "the wine for sale is always better than the wine that is sold out." However, in this case, it makes tremendous sense. This was my second year of my collaboration with Philippe and this additional experience led us to make very slight adjustments in the way we make the wine. This, combined with the high quality of the 2020 growing season in the Sta. Rita Hills, has led to what we think is a fantastic wine. Fortunately, wine critic Jeb Dunnuck agrees with our assessment – here’s what he had to say about the wine:

RATED 97-95 POINTS
by Jeb Dunnuck

"The 2020 Pinot Noir Clos Pepe Ouest Vineyard comes from the western side of the vineyard, which sees slightly smaller berries and yields due to being hammered by the winds. It tends to be a riper Pinot Noir yet always seems more structured and focused than the Est Pinot Noir. Similarly deep purple-hued, with a beautiful bouquet of blue fruits, iron, candied orange zest, and spice, it’s another rich, full-bodied, concentrated Pinot Noir that stays beautifully balanced and has ripe, building tannins as well as a great finish. While it’s not for the Burgundy lovers out there (although you might be surprised), it has depth, structure, and is a brilliant Pinot Noir!"
Production of the 2020 Clos Pepe Ouest Pinot Noir is only 138 cases (6 barrels). As such, we don’t expect it to last very long.

WE’VE GOT A SECRET!

Just this past Friday we received an email from Wine Spectator asking for a copy of the label for the 2019 Clarice Garys’ Vineyard Pinot Noir. This usually foretells very good things.
The 2019 Clarice Pinot Noirs continue to garner exceptional press from a wide variety of sources. Most recently, it was Alder Yarrow, long-time San Francisco wine writer, who heaped praise on these new offerings in his Vinography blog. Here’s some of what he had to say:
2019 Clarice Wine Co. “Garys’ Vineyard” Pinot Noir, Santa Lucia Highlands, Monterey, California
Medium garnet in color, this wine smells of bright cherry and raspberry fruit. In the mouth, faint, gauzy tannins wrap around a core of cherry and raspberry fruit that is fantastically juicy thanks to excellent acidity. There’s a stony freshness and slight salinity to this wine too, which I don’t expect from the SLH. Lovely. 14.1% alcohol.
2019 Clarice Wine Co. Pinot Noir, Santa Lucia Highlands, Monterey, California
Medium garnet in the glass, this wine smells of raspberry and cranberry fruit with a hint of green herbs. In the mouth, lovely raspberry and redcurrant flavors mix with chopped green herbs and faint powdery tannins. Bright citrusy acidity lingers along with dried flowers in the finish. Quite pretty with a nice savory edge.
2019 Clarice Wine Co. “Rosella’s Vineyard” Pinot Noir, Santa Lucia Highlands, Monterey, California
Medium garnet in color, this wine smells of cherry and cranberry fruit. In the mouth, silky flavors of cherry and cranberry have a fantastic, mouthwatering acidity with a delicious powdered herb note that lingers in the finish along with a hint of peeled willow bark. Faint, fine-grained tannins add a little texture.
These new reviews are added onto the avalanche of remarkable press these wines have already garnered (we’ve listed some of those reviews below).
MIXED CASE: Four bottles each of the three 2019 Clarice Pinot Noirs.
MIXED HALF CASE:  Two bottles each of the three 2019 Clarice Pinot Noirs.
MIXED 4-PACK:  Two bottles each of the two Vineyard-Designated Clarice Pinot Noirs Garys’ and Rosella’s Vineyard.
MIXED 3-PACK:  One bottle each of the three 2019 Clarice Pinot Noirs.

TASTING CLARICE & BEAU MARCHAIS
(and picking up your wine orders)

On Saturday, December 4, 2021 Clarice is hosting a day-long Holiday celebration and Pick-Up Party. This is an amazing opportunity to share some great wines, pick-up any Clarice or Beau Marchais Pinot Noirs, and celebrate the Season. Here’s how it works:

1) Three wineries are involved —

  • Limerick Lane Cellars (1023 Limerick Lane, Healdsburg) – this is where we will be fulfilling orders and pouring a bit of Clarice and Beau Marchais and, of course, Limerick Lane will be pouring their fantastic wines. Drop by any time between 11am and 3pm.
  • Bucher Winery (1200 American Way, Windsor) – Diane and John will be pouring their Pinots at 11am, 1pm, and 3pm at Grand Cru. The space is limited so email Diane now to reserve your preferred time slot and guest count: diane@bucher.wine.
  • Copain Wines (7800 Eastside Road, Healdsburg) – My good friend, Ryan Zepaltas, will be showing off the wines he creates at Copain Winery. He’ll be showing his wines with a charcuterie tray add on. You can reserve your spot through Tock. Click on the Clarice experience (and contact us if you have any issues accessing this…)

2) Purchase your Ticket to the Limerick Lane/Clarice & Beau Marchais portion of the event through the link below. Tickets are only $25 per person:

A NEW HARVEST 2021 UPDATE

We have grapes!! And then we were almost finished with grapes.
As of today, we’ve picked the 2021 Clarice Garys’ Vineyard & Rosella’s Vineyard Pinot Noir, the Beau Marchais Clos Pepe Vineyard Pinot Noir, and half of the 2021 Beau Marchais Soberanes Vineyard Pinot Noir grapes. The remaining Soberanes Vineyard fruit will be picked on Tuesday, October 12, 2021.
These harvests all represent the latest dates that we’ve picked these sections – a sign of just how cool the 2021 vintage has been in the Central Coast. As of today, the wines all remain in tank. We will start the pressing process with the Garys’ Vineyard on October 15, 2021.
Without jumping the gun, we will simply say that the quality currently looks to be outstanding for the 2021 grapes. We are doing out best to make certain that the resulting wines are just as good as the grapes we picked. Cheers to the 2021 harvest!!
