I’ve been purchasing Clos Pepe Pinot Noir grapes since the inaugural 2000 vintage. Recently, HALL Winery leased the vineyard and produces outstanding Pinots from Clos Pepe under their WALT label. Fortunately, I’ve known the folks at HALL for quite some time, and they agreed to sell me grapes for Beau Marchais Winery – my new project with Philippe Cambie. Working with WALT, I’ve pulled together a special two pack offering of wines from this famed vineyard, which you can order prior to a Zoom tasting with WALT winemaker, Megan Gunderson. What does it mean to be a Clarice Member?
Clarice Membership is unique in the world of wine. You sign up to be a member and pay for a case (or 6 bottles, this year) over 12 months time. This spreads out "the pain" and keeps your cash free for you to use for other things (probably more wine, if you are like me). Once your 12 payments are complete, your wine is shipped to you. During the 12 months that you are a member, you receive a slew of benefits – including special pricing on Clarice, Beau Marchais, and several other wines. You receive invitations to special Zoom events and in-person events. And there’s going to be more this coming year as well…
Clarice Wine Club Membership for 2021
· With the fires of 2020, I lost all the usual Clarice grapes to smoke. Both the Garys’ Vineyard and Rosella’s Vineyard Pinot Noirs were a complete loss for Clarice.
· I pivoted and produced a fascinating wine from the 2020 vintage from a blend of Grenache and Mourvedre in Paso Robles. The wine is called ENOW – which is an archaic word meaning “Enough.” I thought we all had enough of 2020 and so a wine that is literally ENOUGH 2020 has great meaning. The grapes were co-feremented, the wine made according to the style of some of the great wines of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Production is tiny – around 100 cases.
· To pair with the ENOW, I have partnered with my good friends at Roar Winery to offer the 2019 Roar Rosella’s Vineyard Pinot Noir. There are many reasons this pairing makes sense but the most compelling is that the Franscioni family has long been partners with me both at Siduri and at Clarice and I consult for Roar Winery on their Pinot Noirs. I count Gary, Rosella, Adam and Nick to be some of my best friends. With the 2020 vintage they lost virtually their entire red grape crop and these additional sales will hopefully help them offset some of their losses.
· Clarice Wine Company Members for the 2021 season will receive 3 bottles of the 2020 ENOW Grenache/Mourvedre and 3 bottles of the 2019 Roar Rosella’s Vineyard Pinot Noir. Pricing will be $420 for the year – paid either in one installment or over 12 months at $35 per month. If you choose to pay in one installment you will be entered into a drawing to win a special set of truly limited wines. That pricing includes all applicable taxes and shipping. The wines will be shipped in February, 2022. If you choose to become a member, please wait to order the Beau Marchais wines below as I will send you a code allowing you to receive more favorable pricing.
