Crushpad Events Are Back!!!

Summer in Napa is glorious – the sun is shining, the vines are growing, and the wine is flowing. Crushpad is kicking the summer off with a vast list of new events, classes & tastings.
For the first time ever, you won’t have to wait until the first Wednesday of each month to get your blending fix. We are now offering regularly scheduled Wine Blending classes – Thursdays, Fridays & Saturdays at 3pm. The first blending session is scheduled for July 10th.
Also for the the first time ever, Crushpad is offering a unique opportunity to be a winemaker for an afternoon with our Reserve Experience. Available by appointment only, you and your guests will walk the winery, thieve from barrels, and taste through blending trials, just as the pros do.

Thursday Jun 24th — Napa Valley Rocks with Crushpad — 6pm–7:30pm

The Napa Valley is one of the most unique viticultural regions of the world. "Napa Valley Rocks" presents an overview of the dramatic geologic history and diversity of the Napa Valley along with a look at personalities that have shaped the distinctive reputation of this land and its wines. After this discussion of terroir, attendees will learn and experience the art of wine blending. Using components from Napa Valley, we will learn to evaluate and blend Bordeaux varietals.

Wednesday Jun 30th — Rumble in the Concrete Jungle – Crushpad vs. City Winery — 7pm–9pm

Crushpad and City Winery represent the ultimate dual expressions of the custom winemaking movement – on one side, the sunny Northern Californian custom facility nestled amongst vineyards making wine for the dedicated wine geek; on the other side the urban East Coast winery in a major metropolitan setting handcrafting wines from some of the best vineyards around.
This NYC throwdown is the Ultimate Taste Test – Three rounds of head to head competitive tasting of wines made by California’s heavyweight champion, and New York City’s own contender. If you’re in the tri-state, you can’t miss out!

Thursday Jul 8th — Summer in the Vineyard: Split Rock Vineyard Walk — 9:15am–11:30am

It’s Pinot time! With summer upon us, the skies are clear, the clusters have formed and vineyard managers weigh the pros and cons of each canopy management decision. For our next excursion, we’ll explore Pinot Noir in Sonoma County’s Petaluma Gap. Join our own Stuart Ake and Patrick Mahaney of Premier Pacific Vineyards on an educational walk through Split Rock Vineyard.

Friday Jul 9th — Red Wine Sensory Tasting Class — 11am–12:30pm

Sensory Analysis? Sounds boring. It isn’t. We’ll doctor up wines to explore the roles of acidity, alcohol, oak and malolactic fermentation. Then, we’ll work in teams to identify aromatics of several wines we’ve altered. Don’t fret, we’ll tasting plenty of amazing, undoctored wines as well as we sharpen palates and tighten vocabulary by looking more closely at color, aromatics, flavor and body.

Friday Jul 23rd — Zinfandel Focus Tasting — 11am–12:30pm

Zinfandel represents the heart and soul of California winemaking with the first plantings in the state dating back to the 1850s. California’s heritage grape now accounts for over 52,000 acres from the southern expanses of Temecula to the northern vicinities across Sonoma, Napa, Mendocino and the Sierra Foothills. Don’t miss this in-depth examination where we’ll sip through a series of 2007s, 2008 barrel samples and even a wee baby from 2009.

Friday Jul 30th — Rafael Vineyard Walk — 10:30am–12:30pm

Mid-summer in the vineyard provides an excellent opportunity to explore canopy management and cluster development as we await the arrival of veraison. Join Stuart Ake and Mike Zitzlaff on an educational walk through the cabernet sauvignon vines of Rafael Vineyard in the Oak Knoll District of Napa Valley.
