Dear Friends,
In my mind, the general trajectory of “gimmicky” wine labels is innocuous wine that delivers very little value for the consumer and at first, even as a huge fan GOT fan, I wanted nothing to do with this project. Then I learned that former Williams Selyem winemaker Bob Cabral had been tapped to make the wines…hmmm, interesting, the only TV show I reliably watch with one of the wine industry’s most talented winemakers? OK, I’ll give it a shot.
I’ve known Bob casually for a few years now, and not only is he one of the most immensely likeable guys in this business, he’s also one of its most talented winemakers. The Wine Enthusiast named him Winemaker of the Year in 2011, his Williams Selyem Estate Pinot was the first ever 100-pt scoring California Pinot Noir by a major publication, and over his career, he has crafted over a hundred wines that were scored in the 95-100 point range.
Nevertheless, my doubts remained about whether this would be something worthy of offering to our list, but my first tasting erased those doubts – the wines are beautiful, pure and complex – everything you expect from Bob Cabral. I’ll save you from any attempt to relate them to the show, but I can tell you I am truly looking forward to enjoying these wines when season 7 premieres this weekend.
The Game of Thrones Cabernet is as good as any 2014 Napa Valley offering that’s come across my desk as a potential big Fall Cabernet Lot Release, and has already picked up a 91 point score from Wine Spectator and a 90 point score from Wine Enthusiast. This wine is clearly for the die-hard fans, collectors, and the most serious of watch parties coming up over the next seven weeks.
The Game of Thrones Red Wine is probably going to be the biggest hit of the bunch. Bob really shows off his winemaking skills here – a Syrah and Tempranillo core is fleshed out with Malbec, Petite Sirah, and Zinfandel, all in perfect harmony. Aromas of blueberry, cassis, toasty oak, and black pepper waft out of the glass, followed by juicy black fruit flavors on the palate with a kiss of spice. A terrific red blend.
The Game of Thrones Chardonnay is everything we’ve come to love about Central Coast Chardonnay from Monterey County. Floral peach and nectarine aromas on the nose, followed by a smooth entry and creamy palate of stone fruits, tangerine, and honey. Finishes with a pure, clean juiciness that makes you want glass after glass, and will serve you well if you plan on eating every chicken in the room.
As a reminder, you’re welcome to mix and match these wines with anything else from our web store in order to qualify for discounted shipping, but these wines are considered "Friends of Cam" releases, and as such, are aggressively priced and are not eligible for additional discounts.
As always, if you have any questions or need assistance with your order, please don’t hesitate to reply to this email or call 800-805-1971.

Cheers!
