 Manhattan Wine Company Update

What makes grapes grown at a higher altitude unique?  To start, temperatures are cooler in these elevated areas, which changes the ripening process and leads to extremely singular aromas and flavors. The soils also tend to be less rich in mountainous areas, with more varied composition. We’ve been drawn to these high-altitude wines for several years, and we want to share some of our favorite representations with you. Please join Blake Johnson from Rosenthal Wine Merchant at the shop this Friday anytime from 6:00-7:30 to taste a compelling lineup of wines from Switzerland, Savoie and the Valle d’Aosta.
We will taste:
SWITZERLAND
Since less than 2% of Swiss wine is exported, many people outside the immediate area are unaware that the country produces some especially compelling bottles. Within Switzerland, the Valais is responsible for 1/3 of all wine production. The Valais’ dry climate, exceptional amount of sunlight and long summers are ideal conditions for ripe, healthy grapes.
Cave Caloz – Gamay, La Mourziere 2016 @ $39.99/btl
Cave Caloz – Cornalin, Les Bernunes 2014 @ $47.99/btl
SAVOIE
Savoie is a somewhat isolated mountainous wine region in the far eastern part of France on the border of Switzerland. It accounts for a miniscule 0.5% of all French wine production, the majority of which is white.
L. Magnin- Vin de Savoie Chignon-Bergeron Roussanne Verticale 2011 @ $35.99/bottle
L. Magnin – Vin de Savoie Arbin Mondeuse La Rouge 2012 @ $37.99/bottle
VALLE D’AOSTA
Tucked in to the northwest corner of Italy between France and Switzerland, the Valle d’Aosta is a small but stunning region home to some of the Alps’ highest peaks, including the king of them all – Mont Blanc.
Grosjean – Torrette 2016 @ $19.99/bottle
Ermes Pavese – Blanc de Morgex et de la Salle 2016 @ $31.99/btl
The tasting is free but please RSVP on our site here if you think you can make it so we can be prepared for everyone.
Hope to see you on Friday!
Cheers,
