Harvest took a hectic turn this month as several consecutive 100+ degree days, followed shortly by an unseasonal rain storm, pushed us into high gear.  Working at the whim of the weather is one of the struggles and joys of winemaking. You never know what each harvest will bring, but you’d better be prepared for anything!
Fruit is really coming in now, we have lots of Syrah happily bubbling away as lively, native yeasts do their work. The first pick at Nellessen vineyard arrived on a blessedly temperate Saturday afternoon, comprised of 50% Syrah and 50% Viognier which we co-ferment using carbonic maceration and will become the cornerstone of the Dazed & Carbonic blend.

In other exciting news, the Fall Release opened this month with wines that we have been eagerly awaiting to share with you all summer. This release is a journey through the diverse wine regions of California. Chenin Blanc and Syrah from Alder Springs Vineyard high in the northern Mendocino mountains. A Gamay blend from two Sonoma County sites, which has proven time and again to be a perfect fit for the variety.  And from the Clements Hills of Lodi, a Syrah that’s as charming and delicious as it is affordable. The release closes on October 5th, so if you haven’t already secured your allocation you only have a few days left!

With the whiplash of oppressive heat and cool, drizzly days we’ve been enjoying a variety of late summer dishes and hearty fall treats.  The recent release of Monduese Noire (a Club Exclusive wine) has turned our thoughts to classic Savoie dishes, in particular the sumptuous tartiflette.
