Greetings from Sebastopol,
Many of you may be aware that this has been a harrowing week in Sonoma County, with a wildfire ripping through much of the north eastern part of the county. Our staff and winery are safe, and though operations briefly came to a stand still under the black outs and evacuation orders we are happy to say that we are back up and running! We are immensely grateful for the first responders who have been working day and night to save our neighboring communities of Healdsburg and Windsor and who have ensured the safety of the residents. Our hearts go out to those who’ve lost their homes and businesses, and to the two firefighters who were injured in the battle.
Our community is stronger and closer than ever, and we’ve never been more proud to call this place home. We are proceeding with this special release as planned, and we hope that when you drink this wine you’ll think about all of the hands that worked to produce it and appreciate the tenacity and resilience of the people of Sonoma County who are yet again rising from the ashes.

The Armagh is our witches brew. A cool coastal vineyard in the Petaluma Wind Gap, this Syrah has consistently revealed a bloody, umami quality in bottle, going back to the first vintage we bottled in 2007. In 2017 this was the only single vineyard Syrah that we bottled, its distinctiveness far too intriguing to blend away into Hillsides or North Coast. It features all of the briny, herbal, and savory qualities that make us fall in love with the refined Syrahs from across the Atlantic and inspire us to try our hand to create a similar magic in California.
A question we’ve heard over and over comes to mind, can New World Syrahs hold their own against the iconic wines of the Rhône Valley? Our answer is painted on the wall in our cellar, a daily reminder from the one and only David Bowie that "it’s always time to question what has become standard and established." From all of us at PAX, we hope you enjoy this very special bottling for years to come.
