Today is International Tempranillo Day, a celebration of the small but mighty Tempranillo grape.

Did you know the Tempranillo grape occupies more than 75% of the Rioja’s vineyards? In fact, many experts feel that Tempranillo reaches its finest expression within the wine region.

What better way to celebrate than by picking up a bottle of Rioja featuring the iconic grape and joining the party on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

Grape-tastic Facts About #TempranilloDay:

  • Spanish Roots. The word “Tempranillo” comes from the Spanish word “temprano,” which means “early,” since the grapes ripen quite earlier than other Spanish reds.
  • Flavorful. Wines made from Tempranillo grapes, feature flavors of berries, plums, herbs and tobacco.
  • Worldwide Appeal. Although Tempranillo grapes are grown across 500,000 acres of vineyards throughout the world, the grape originated in the perfectly cool climate of Northern Spain.
