We’re honored to share that Spain has taken center stage on the cover of Wine Spectator for the June 2017 issue. Within the feature, "Spain: Vibrant Culture, Delicious Wines," the Wine Region of Rioja receives recognition for its significant stance in the industry.
Lead taster and executive editor Thomas Matthews reviewed more than 725 Spanish wines in blind tastings, all of them falling into the table wine category. He provides a deliciously detailed report on the best wines in Spain, including many Riojas. Out of the 200+ Rioja wines included in his review, nearly a third received outstanding scores.
Adding to your Spanish wine collection? Make sure to stock up on remaining reds from 2010, which Matthews calls “the last truly, great vintage.” For robust, fruit-forward lovers, look no further than the year 2012 – they will be sure to deliver. More of a fresh, savory fan? You can’t go wrong with any selection from 2013 or 2014, according to the magazine.
Don’t forget the long-produced, crisp, white wines of the region! Spain’s most historic white grape, Viura dominates a majority of the vines at 76% of all white acreage.
Be sure to check out all the articles featuring Rioja in the June edition of Wine Spectator which is on newsstands now.
