Spring 2015 Wines

Celebrating Our 25th Harvest: 1991 to 2015

In October of 1991 we were crushing the Zinfandel grapes from Aldo’s Vineyard on our first harvest as a winery at a little rented garage on Spring Mountain. Now, here we are in 2015 anticipating the crush of our 25th harvest from the same vineyard – along with a couple dozen other Zinfandel and Petite Sirah vineyards. We are proud that our quest to be recognized as preservationists of Napa Valley’s historic Zinfandel and Petite Sirah tradition has taken on real meaning. We’ve come a long way but in a sense we are just getting started and are excited to be witnessing the influence of a new generation who "gets it."

Our sincerest thanks go out to you – our ardent members of the Biale Black Chicken Society who make our mission possible and have a hand in keeping the tradition of America’s heritage winemaking alive and thriving. Here’s to the next 25 vintages!

BlackChicken Robert Biale Vineyards Spring Releases

A Kid and a Code.
2013 Black Chicken
Zinfandel, Napa Valley
Oh, the delicious covert coolness of it all – Aldo Biale’s secret wine barrels! Times were especially tough on immigrants especially during the era of the Great Depression. And to make matters worse, Christina Biale had lost her husband Pietro Biale in an accidental rock quarry explosion in 1942. Her only son Aldo at 13 years old was suddenly called upon to take over the running of the family farm. Read more.

RockyRidge Robert Biale Vineyards Spring Releases

Rockin’ the Rockpile.
2013 Rocky Ridge
Zinfandel, Rockpile Appellation
This relatively new appellation in remote northern Sonoma County is something special, and its most recognized grape variety? Zinfandel. It’s like a Zinfandel district up there. Varozza Robert Biale Vineyards Spring Releases

The Real Deal.
2013 Varozza Vineyard
Zinfandel, Appellation St. Helena, Napa Valley
We tend to forget these days that Napa Valley was founded not by faceless consortiums or companies, but by families. Hard-working farming families that plowed and grinded out a life season by season raising crops by which they made their livings, paid their bills and raised their children. Read more.

Stagecoach Robert Biale Vineyards Spring Releases

No Horsing Around.
2013 Stagecoach Vineyard
Zinfandel, Napa Valley
We are most proud of our project at Stagecoach Vineyards; what we have boldly called “the most serious planting of Zinfandel in Napa Valley’s modern era.” Stagecoach Vineyards in its entirety is no ordinary vineyard location – it is more like its own district in and around Atlas Peak, Pritchard Hill, and Oakville that encompasses hundreds of acres of prime mountain vineyards that supply dozens of winemakers with some of their most prized grapes. Nonnas Robert Biale Vineyards Spring Releases

Character.
2013 Nonna’s Vineyard Sangiovese
Oak Knoll District, Napa Valley
In 1992, one year after we started the winery, Aldo converted a small vineyard block behind his house to Sangiovese and named it after his mother. It turned out to be so good that we broke from our Zinfandel course and added it to the Biale repertoire. An immigrant from northern Italy, Nonna, met her life partner Pietro Biale, also of northern Italy, while working in San Francisco. Read more.

Thomann Robert Biale Vineyards Spring Releases

All Aboard.
2012 Thomann Station

This stupendous wine is from the small vineyard adjacent to the Louis M.
