In 1980, we began a 14-year series of trials in conjunction with UC Davis to identify Cabernet Sauvignon clones best suited to our Rutherford Bench terroir. Three clones – 4, 6, and 169 – were ultimately selected for grafting to rootstocks planted in the well-draining, alluvial fan soils of our estate vineyards.

1903 | The Early Days
Georges de Latour buys the 128 acres bordering the former Thompson property. It’s now known as BV Ranch No. 1. In 1910, the couple expand their holdings to create BV Ranch No 2. Throughout this era, Georges imports hundreds of thousands of the choicest European vines via his nursery in Paris. He plants them in BV’s vineyards and shares them with other growers throughout California.
