AN IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT ABOUT THE FUTURE OF BEAU MARCHAIS WINERY

I am incredibly sad to announce that 2021 will be the final vintage of Beau Marchais Winery.
Philippe was my dear friend and my partner in Beau Marchais Winery. It was his statement over dinner at his home – "I’ve always dreamed of making Pinot Noir" – that began Beau Marchais Winery. And it truly was his vision for the wines that made them what they are. Without Philippe it was too difficult for me to imagine continuing on with Beau Marchais so, after collaboration with his family, we have decided to end Beau Marchais after the 2021 vintage. Obviously, I am incredibly sad about this but also so very happy to have had Philippe in my life.
"Life is short and we have never too much time for gladdening the hearts of those who are travelling the dark journey with us. Oh be swift to love, make haste to be kind." – Henri Frederic Amiel

2020 BEAU MARCHAIS CLOS PEPE VINEYARD OUEST PINOT NOIR RECEIVES 95 POINTS FROM PURELY DOMESTIC WINE REPORT

Just last night, Purely Domestic Wine Report released their Central Coast Wine Reviews and this included a 95 Point Rating on the 2020 Beau Marchais Clos Pepe Vineyard Ouest Pinot Noir. Here’s what they had to say:

95 POINTS
"The nose is mineral with crushed red berries, spice backed with hints of cedar and ripe small plums. The palate entry carries more mass than the Est with full-bodied licorice, saturated black cherry leading to a core of silk red fruit and graphite. The finish reminds of polished black and purple stone fruits. Nice texture. Drink 2022-2028."

In addition, the Clos Pepe Vineyard Est received 94 Points, matching the same 94 Point Rating it received from Wine Spectator.
Both of these wines are running low, with the Est expected to sell out in April and the Ouest maybe making it until the end of May. If you are interested in acquiring any of these wines, please follow the link below to the website to place your order:

Is Sauvignon Blanc California’s Hottest Grape?
Join Us Monday, May 9 at 4pm PDT for A Very Special Panel of Sauvignon Blanc Winemakers to Discuss What’s Happening With This Wine in the Golden State.

It seems that Sauvignon Blanc, first planted in California in the 1870s, is suddenly the trendiest grape in the state. If you can possibly find any grapes, prices are rising dramatically, and the wine is flying off the shelves. Even the press is noticing this surge in popularity:

https://www.pressdemocrat.com/article/business/the-hottest-grape-variety-on-the-north-coast-for-wineries-sauvignon-blanc/

I know that Clarice Members enjoy a wide variety of wines – not just Pinot Noir – and thus thought that we should explore what is going on with Sauvignon Blanc. To do so, I’ve pulled together an outstanding panel of some of California’s finest Sauvignon Blanc makers to discuss the increased popularity of the grape, how they make their wines both in the vineyard and in the winery, what they are doing to raise the quality of their wines to an even higher level, and what they anticipate the future of the wine to be. This panel includes Fabian Bravo, winemaker at Brander Winery, Marcia Torres Forno, winemaker at Matanzas Creek Winery, John & Diane Bucher, Roger Beery, and more….
Please open a bottle of your favorite Sauvignon Blanc and join with us for this educational and fun discussion:

BLENDING THE 2021 CLARICE & BEAU MARCHAIS PINOT NOIRS

We have spent the last few weeks blending the 2021 Clarice and Beau Marchais Pinot Noirs and we’ve come up with some fantastic wines. The 2021 vintage required a bit more selection than, say, 2018, but the wines are truly fantastic.
For Clarice Wine Company we will have three different Pinot Noirs – the 2021 Santa Lucia Highlands Blend (62.5% Rosella’s Vineyard and 37.5% Garys’ Vineyard) and the single-vineyard wines from Rosella’s and Garys’ Vineyards. Production will be down a bit this year from 2019 (a bummer as we lost all the 2020 grapes due to smoke) but our commitment is to producing the best wine not the most wine. We will also be making some magnums from the 2021 vintage – more on those later.
The Beau Marchais blending was a joint effort with Isabel Gassier, a brilliant winemaker long-time friend and compatriot of Philippe Cambie. As you recall, Philippe passed away unexpectedly in December of 2021 – after having guided us through the 2021 harvest. Isabel’s insight and palate were invaluable in helping create these wines. There will be three different 2021 Beau Marchais Pinot Noirs (and by different we mean different than any of the Beau Marchais wines we’ve produced up until now): 2021 Beau Marchais Clos Pepe Vineyard Pinot Noir, 2021 Beau Marchais Soberanes Vineyard Nord Pinot Noir, and 2021 Beau Marchais Soberanes Vineyard Sud Pinot Noir.
Look for all of these wines to be released near the end of 2022 and into 2023.
