PORT, THE PERFECT COLD-WEATHER DRINK
Before winter officially takes its hold there’s no better way to stay warm during fall’s last gasp than by embracing Port. While this sweet wine does indeed pair well with chocolatey desserts, in abundance during the holiday season, there’s a plethora of pairings to try. A young single Quinta or declared vintage Port works beautifully with a piece of grilled steak. Up your cocktail game with a Port Old Fashioned or get creative with a Winter Red Fruit Spritz – Port isn’t just an after-dinner drink. Start your meal by toasting with a Bubbly Apple Port or a casual can of Chip Dry & Tonic. To read all about Port and the many ways to enjoy it with food this holiday season and beyond, check out this article from The Zoe Report.

NEW YEAR, NEW COCKTAILS
As you plan your 2023 travel, consider making a trip to Porto, Portugal. Just inland lies the Duoro Valley, the home of Port, where good food and great Port are the center of life. The local cocktail scene is abuzz, pun intended, while the restaurant options are endless. Plan a tour of Taylor Fladgate’s winery – locally known as a port lodge – to drink from the source, as well as a visit the lodges of Fonseca and Croft. Then, check out the World of Wine for a more immersive experience. Learn more about the region, including things to do and places to stay and eat, in this article from Food & Wine.

BEHIND THE SCENES OF PORT
The documentary, "A Year in Port", came out in 2016, but there’s no better time to queue up the film than a cold, snowy day during the winter doldrums. Transport yourself from the cozy comfort of your couch to the dramatic vineyards of Portugal. Follow renowned wine importer Martine Saunier along a journey into Portugal’s spectacular Douro Valley to explore the history, mystery, and complexity of the world of Port. Don’t forget to pour youself a glass while you watch. Check out the trailer below for a taste or set aside some time to view the full feature film on Amazon.
