Wine as a Work of Art, From the Earth to the Glass

Bodegas Ontañón is a family-owned winery located in the heart of Rioja. For four generations, the Perez-Cuevas family has cultivated vineyard land south of the Ebro River just outside the tiny town of Quel. Through the years they have continued to purchase property near their original holdings on the higher-elevation slopes of the Sierra Yerga Mountains and currently have more than 800 hectares planted to vine, making them one of the top three family vineyard owners in Spain.



Raquel, Ruben, Leticia and Maria Perez Cuevas make up the current generation of the Perez Cuevas family to carry on a tradition of winemaking in the eastern part of La Rioja, Rioja Oriental. Their father, Gabriel, took over in the 1970s and began making wine from the vineyards rather than selling fruit. Ontañón is the name of the mountain valley where the majority of the family’s vineyard land lies. The wines have been recognized with high accolades by press and critics across the world.

Harmony is the Spirit of a Wine

The Wines of Dominio de Queirón were conceived by the Pérez Cuevas family in their native Quel, which is located in the heart of the Cidacos river valley in the sub-region of Rioja Oriental. The winery strives to produce the absolute best wines possible from their native region. The vineyards are located between the Sierra Yerga and La Hez mountain ranges in the heart of the Barrio de Bodegas de Quel; an emblematic enclave of the 18th century that represents the historical roots of this tiny village in Rioja, with respect to wine, culture and soul. This includes the famed La Pasada vineyard, located at 2500 feet above sea-level, some of the highest vineyard land planted in Rioja.

Queirón embodies the philosophy of the Pérez Cuevas family, who has been focused on the world of wine for four genera- tions. Queirón is the culmination of the dream of third generation patriarch Gabriel Pérez, winemaker and pioneering wine entrepreneur in this area of Rioja Oriental. The project has restored historical areas and vineyards in the surrounding areas of Quel alongside the slopes that define the Sierra de Yerga mountain range. The Queirón winery is one of the most techno- logically-advanced wineries in Rioja. The terroir bridges a relationship between viticulture and the period of the Middle Ages, as evidenced by the ancient casle of Quel, that overlooks the winery.
