Included in your ticket price is a selection of delicious Argentine dishes to sample and complement this taste of Argentina. Malbec World Day is the only event where you’ll be able to expand your knowledge and sample some of the best award-winning wines being made in Argentina today, all under one roof.

ABOUT MALBEC WORLD DAY
Wines of Argentina, the organization responsible for promoting the image of Argentine wines around the world, has declared the week of April 22 as Malbec World Day in honor of the country’s iconic varietal. Malbec was first introduced to Argentina in the mid-19th century, when Domingo Sarmiento, the 5th President of Argentina, hired the French agronomist Michel Aimé Pouget to run the first school of agriculture in Mendoza. Pouget brought cuttings and seeds to plant, and so the cultivation of Malbec began. The Malbec grape flourished in Argentina, finding an ideal growing environment that has resulted in unprecedented levels of quality and the production of unique wines of international renown. Today, Argentina is the largest producer of Malbec in the world. It has become the nation’s signature varietal and is grown throughout the country’s wine regions. April 17th was selected as Malbec World Day because of its historical significance. On this day in 1853, the bill to create the Quinta Agronomica, a government program to improve all aspects of Agriculture, including the national wine industry, was submitted to the Provincial Legislature of Mendoza. The date represents both the transformation of Argentina’s wine industry and the starting point for the development of Malbec as its flagship variety.

"Swing by Uncorking Argentina’s table to see how you can continue your wine education in a first hand setting, on a wine trip to Mendoza. Uncork and discover South America’s most premier wine region!"

On April 17th, we attended World Malbec Day at NYC’s City Winery.  It was a global celebration of the grape that has pushed Argentina into the spotlight of the New World wine regions. Simultaneous events will be held in over 30 countries during the inaugural Malbec World Day with dinners, tastings, harvest parties and special media events.

We sampled over 90 wines from producers large and small. From artisanal growers in the south, to marquee estates in Mendoza, it was a wine tasting trip across Argentina.
