Dear Friends,
You’ve heard a lot from us over the years regarding Stagecoach Vineyard Cabernet, and how blue chip Napa producers renown the world over consider its soils one of California’s finest. Today’s release features the second most acclaimed varietal from Stagecoach – Syrah.
Lot 423 2011 Napa Valley Syrah is a beauty. No expense was spared with this wine: it spent over 24 months in new oak as we sought to unwind its tightly packed structure. The result is a lovely Syrah that delivers now and will continue to age for another decade. This is not overblown rocket fuel but rather a cooler climate example (14.2% abv), combining Northern Rhone with California Mountain Grown. Ready now (fantastic with red meats and game), but a terrific cellaring candidate.
Lot 423 2011 Napa Valley Syrah
Vintage: 2011
Appellation: Napa Valley, CA
Grape: Syrah
Alcohol by volume: 14.2%
Cost: $19
Opens up with densely packed aromatics of red plum skins and mocha notes that give way to powdery florals, pink peppercorns and black currant, with hints of crushed rock and dried herb. Seamless on the palate, the wine is lavishly constructed, with earthy minerality infused with plush tannins. Definitely worth a good hour or two in the decanter. Most Syrahs from Stagecoach retail for $40-$70 a bottle – this is a killer bargain at under $20.
As a New Release special offer, go ahead and take 15% off any purchase of one case or more through Tuesday night at midnight (Wine Club members get 20% off) as long as the order includes one bottle of Lot 423 (mix and match the whole store!).
