Wine Reviews & Cellar Management Tools

Newsletter

Well here we are in September, and this is our first newsletter since the end of last year. While we’ve been silent on the newsletter front, we’ve been quite busy working behind the scenes to provide you better tools to enhance your wine experiences.

We wanted to give you an update on two of our main focus areas for 2013: the overall speed/performance of the site and creating a great mobile solution.

PERFORMANCE

With the transition to the ‘new’ CellarTracker site, and our continued growth in traffic, we (and you) noticed some of our performance metrics creeping in the wrong direction. After months of planning, last week we completed a significant overhaul of the site hardware – and certainly the largest in the past 4.5 years. You can see more photos and details of the upgrade on our Facebook page, but the short version is that the site is now much faster for everyday usage and much better positioned to handle our projected growth in traffic. We will continue to be vigilant on performance as we add new functionality, and already have several additional optimizations in mind.

MOBILE

We’ve heard your requests for mobile support loud and clear; just over one month ago, we released an early preview of our mobile site for currently paying members of CellarTracker in order to get feedback on our design. If you have made a voluntary payment to CellarTracker in the past year, we invite you to give it a try yourself at www.cellartracker.com/m.

Once we’ve made a bit more progress with site functionality, we will open it up to all users. Ultimately, the mobile site will follow the same model as the main site in terms of registration and payment. We do also have plans to build native apps for iPhone, Android and Windows Phone. You can read many other questions and answers in our Mobile FAQ here. If you didn’t find an answer to your question, please post in our Support Forum.

THE CELLARTRACKER TEAM

Dating back to late 2004, Andrew Hall has helped CellarTracker on a part-time basis with a variety of editorial tasks on the wine database. We are very pleased to announce that on October 1, Andrew will become the 3rd fulltime member of our team. In addition to even more time spent cleaning the wine database, he will also be focusing on community engagement, customer support and helping users with bulk imports.

To close, we hope you enjoy our progress so far. We will continue to focus more on each of these areas for the remainder of the year. For more frequent updates, please follow us on Facebook.

Sincerely,
Eric LeVine, Dan Polivy and Andrew Hall
