    TASTING WINES

    Domaine Gasnier Cravantine NV
The estate of Domaine Gasnier is comprised of 25 hectares, all within the commune of Cravant-les-Coteaux.  The Gasniers employ biodynamic techniques in farming, no pesticides or herbicides. The Cravantine is a distinctive sparkling wine made from carefully grown Cabernet Franc grapes. The bubbles are the result of the traditional, labor-intensive méthode champenoise. Appealing strawberry and mineral scents are encased in a firm structure with a dry and spicy quality in the palate. Great aperitif for the holiday season.
Roc des Anges Côtes Catalanes Blanc Effet Papillon 2017
This juicy blend of Grenache Blanc and Macabeu, it’s bright, vibrant wine, with aromas of anise and jasmine. The mid palate is juicy, with a core of exotic stone fruit that finishes fresh, long and fine. Great house white, drink with anything……but particularly perfect with clam pizza!
    Couselo Rias Baixas Albariño 2017
The Rosal Valley is unique to the Rias Baixas D.O. It’s the most coastal and the coolest of the 5 subzones that Albariño thrives in. Sitting on the Miño river which separates Spain and Portugal, Couselo’s soils contain slate which is extremely rare for the sub-zone. Acidic, well-drained soils that retain heat — great for Albariño, lend wet-stone, saline and lemon aromatics to this elegant renditon of Albariño. Pair with Barnegat sea scallops, grilled shrimp, any flaky white fish or just by itself as the perfect aperitif.
Domaine Etienne Daulny Sancerre Blanc 2017
Etienne Daulny is the latest in a very long line of Daulnys to farm Sauvignon Blanc near the tiny hamlet of Verdigny in the appellation of Sancerre. His estate is broken up into 50-some parcels, each with a classic soil type found in the very best Sancerre vineyards. Etienne ferments and ages the wine in stainless steel as to protect the pure fruit of his Sauvignon Blanc grapes. The resulting wine is classic Sancerre, aromatically dynamic, with intense fruit, distinct minerality and blazing acidity. Sancerre is incredibly food-friendly, it’s probably the white wine we drink most often at home.
Château de Villeneuve Saumur Blanc 2017
The best Chenin Blanc in the Loire Valley is always rooted in the chalky white soil they call tuffeau. It’s the best source to deliver aromatically complex, vibrant Chenin, perfect at any dining room table. The organically farmed Château de Villeneuve in Saumur, has a history of making notable Chenin Blanc since 1577 and the 2017 rendition shows every bit of that considerable pedigree. Aromas of ripe apple and melon mingled with ginger and honeysuckle elegantly lift from the glass, leading to a concentrated core of peach and apricot flavors. The finish is forever, super crisp and mineral. Pair with anything from the sea or anything rich and fatty, it is as good with lobster as it is with foie gras or sausages.
Clos Julien Chardonnay Santa Barbara County 2016
From the long growing season of 2016, Chardonnay at Clos Julien was harvested later than the previous 20 vintages. The crop was small as were the clusters; the extended hang time provided superb natural ripeness. Rich, ripe and pure, still infused with the Clos Julien benchmark acid balance, the 2016 Chardonnay is delicious now but will continue to age gracefully for 3-4 years.
    Domaine Cornu-Camus Pernand-Vergelesses Blanc 2017
Lydia Cornu naturally farm small parcels in Pernand Vergelesses, the Hautes Côtes de Beaune and the Hautes Côtes de Nuits. The Cornu family has grown grapes here for 600 years! That expertise is important as the high elevation and cooler microclimates of these appellations require perfectly positioned vineyards and impeccable farming to produce consistently ripe grapes. Her very rare Pernand Blanc Les Vignes Blanches is terrifically concentrated, loaded with aromas and flavors of green apple, lemon cream, and hazelnuts. It’s crazy long on the palate, mineral and stony all the way through that keeps it light on its feet, so incredibly drinkable.
    Keller Riesling Limestone 2017
This dynamic estate in the Rheinhessen produces aromatically intense, incredibly pure Riesling. Klaus-Peter Keller’s natural farming, low yields, and non-interventive style of wine-making allows for crystalline, fruity wines that are flat-out delicious! Enjoy this wine over the next 15 years with sausages, fleshier fish, roasted poultry, and cream sauces.
Domaine Francois Raquillet Bourgogne Rouge 2016
Nestled amidst the limestone-laden, green hills of Mercurey, lies the 12 hectare estate of François Raquillet. Just south of Chassagne Montrachet, Mercurey in the hands of François becomes Burgundy with a much deeper level of complexity, concentration and age-worthiness than most of his peers. The combination of old vines, low yields and organic farming creates incredible aromatic complexity and a lush texture generally found only in wines with much greater price tags. The Bourgogne Rouge is the product of 60 year old vines, rooted in mineral limestone hillside vineyards. Vinified entirely in oak, this is juicy, berried-up Pinot Noir with a lip-smacking mineral finish that makes it absolutely perfect at any table. Pair with grilled salmon, roasted turkey and mushroom dishes.
Juliana Layla Pinot Noir Willamette Valley 2016
Named after our  7 year old daughter Juliana Layla, her latest Pinot Noir was sourced from the cooler reaches of Willamette Valley, Oregon’s finest source of Pinot Noir. It is explosively aromatic, with a high-toned, wild cherry nose kissed with just a touch of spice. The fruit is absolutely pure Pinot, bright and vibrant. Drink with everything, from roasted poultry to salmon on the grill. We’ll be pouring it by the glass in the restaurant for as long the wine sticks around. 250 cases produced.
Domaine du Colibri Ventoux Rouge Le Petit Tour 2016
Olivier Legranger purchased 30 acres of old vines of Grenache, Carignane and Cinsault in the winter of 2016. Ideally located halfway between the Alps and the sea, his parcels are on the western face of Mount Ventoux. The vines are old, rooted in limestone and the constant winds of the mistral keep the vines free of bugs, mold and disease without the use of chemicals. Olivier’s debut vintage is a marvel in the juicy, Tuesday night, bang for the buck red category. The wine bright aromatically, with a bouquet of purple flowers, anise and thyme. It is loaded with red berry fruit yet is fresh and easy to drink; those limestone soils give great length and vibrancy. It’s a classic BBQ red, pair with any kind of meat off the grill.

Roberto Ferraris Barbera d’Asti Nobbio 2016
From the turret of Roberto Ferraris’ cantina one can see an endless panorama of vineyards situated on the nearby sloping hills. His Barbera vineyards are the steepest of all, wonderfully exposed to the morning sun. Nobbio is a single vineyard of 70-year old vines of very distinctive Barbera, Nobbio is one of the best crus in all of Southern Piedmont for this traditional variety. Vinified in stainless steel vats under controlled temperature, this wine retains pristine fruit aromas and primary flavors that are supported by considerable structure, complex texture and great balance. Exuberant and very fine, this is Barbera to savor young or to see evolve in time.
Stolpman Vineyards Syrah Santa Ynez Valley 2016
Situated on the limestone hills of Ballard Canyon in Santa Ynex Valley lies the organic estate of the Stolpman Family. The limestone is an utter rarity in California and it is one of the secrets to their aromatically complex, dynamically vibrant wines. The Estate Syrah is an intense, stylish wine, very fresh and light on its feet. It blast out of the glass aromatically, with pure black cherry and red fruit mingled with sweet herbs. In the mouth, the juicy fruit is layered and complex, followed by very fine tannin and a long, stony finish. Perfect with lamb or any other grilled meat. Drink now-2025.
    Ludlow – Cabernet Sauvignon 2014
The 2014 Ludlow Cab is bright and juicy, loaded with flavors of cassis and black berries with just a touch of coffee and dark chocolate. A few years of bottle ageing leaves a long, fine finish. It’s a great party Cab, delicious by itself or a great complement to a grilled burger or steak.
Juliana Layla Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2016
The 2016 Juliana Layla is a classic Napa Cabernet, black in color with a dynamic nose of cassis, cedar and chocolate-tinged purple fruit. It’s old vine source rooted in the alluvial soils just outside of St Helena is prime Napa Cab real estate. The wine is concentrated with a firm, solid finish that speaks to its potential for considerable aging. Perfect for holidays gifts, the holiday roast beast or any occasion that calls for for expensive Cabernet. It’s a killer deal, don’t miss it
    Cerbaia Brunello di Montalcino 2013
“I love the combination of discreet, mature aromas and the lively red cherry fruit on the nose of this Brunello. Very pure and clean with serious but beautifully integrated dry tannins for 2013. Long and lively finish that makes you want to see what happens to this in 5-10 years — that is if you can resist it now. Publish Date: Thursday, January 25, 2018 “JAMES SUCKLING – 93 pts
