Six-Bottle Sampler!
Regular Price: $125 for these 6 wines
Sampler Sale Price: $100 (20% Off!)
The time of year has come to relax with our families and reflect on all that we have to be thankful for in life. My family’s yearly tradition always starts with my wonderful wife, Gigi, and her mom, Mimi, waking up to start preparing food at 5:30 am. They don’t actually kick me out of the kitchen, but they make it exceedingly clear I’m not exactly needed. To be honest, this is the reason I keep the shop open from 10 am until 2 pm on Thanksgiving Day, as I like to feel needed somewhere! After closing, I get in the car and drive to my in-laws’ house near Philadelphia to meet my family for an amazing 60-person feast. I will have about three customized cases of wine picked out for the occasion– yes, 36 bottles. But for those of you with smaller celebrations planned, I have selected the perfect sampler to pair with your Thanksgiving meal. I hope you enjoy these six wines with your families as much I will with mine. From all of us here at the Corkscrew, have a very Happy Thanksgiving!
Eat Well, Drink Well,
Laurent
2013 Domaine Larochette Saint-Véran
On the nose, there are notes of ripe cantaloupe and a touch of vanilla, mixed with a fantastic minerality. It is a medium-bodied Chardonnay with a lemon meringue fruitiness on the front of the palate, with a mouth-coating, creamy texture, and a delicate acidity that balances the wine beautifully. A perfect complement for roasted turkey dishes with slow-cooked root vegetables.
2010 Château Pierre de Montignac
This Bordeaux blend has notes of dark fruit on the nose – plums, blackberries, and currants. The palate is rich and dense, with juicy black fruits. This wine has great structure, with fresh acidity and mild tannins. The finish is long with hints of cedar, cinnamon and vanilla. Pair with roasted turkey, baked sweet potato, green beans, and butternut squash.
2012 Domaine de la Citadelle ‘Les Artèmes’
The "Les Artèmes" has a complex aroma of cherries and red berries with notes of garrigue and spice. The palate is full, with rich, red fruit, licorice and subtle oak, yet elegant, with fine acidity lending to a vibrant and lively finish. Pair with candied yams, sweet potatoes or soft, creamy cheeses.
2012 Clos Julien Russian River Pinot Noir
This delicious Pinot Noir offers a unique combination of juicy-berry fruit richness and nervy vibrancy. The Clos Julien is aromatically dynamic, with fine aromas of red flowers and crushed ripe berries. The flavors are deep and rich yet the wine stays very fresh all the way through to its finish, which is long and crisp. This is the perfect pairing for the main turkey course.
2013 Three Vineyards Zinfandel
Sourced from vines from up to 100+ years of age, raspberry and blackberry fruit jump from the glass. The palate is awash with cherries and black fruit flavors. This wine is concentrated with wonderful structure. The lengthy finish is touched with notes of earth and spice. It is such a beautiful red, and it will go wonderfully with Thanksgiving sides such as sweet potatoes, butternut squash and cranberry sauce.
2012 Olivier and Lafont Gigondas
This wine is soft and feminine, with stunning dark fruit and mineral aromas that emanate from the glass. There are lush blackberry and blueberry fruit flavors woven around a wonderful mineral structure that runs from attack to finish. There are also notes of lilac and light spice on this full-bodied red, with velvety smooth tannins that carry through the wine’s long finish. Pair this with the turkey’s dark meat or a rich stuffing with gravy on top.
