The 2nd annual Rioja Week blew through the Windy City in May, kicking off with the Rioja Wine & Tapas Festival to celebrate the wine and culture the Spanish region is famous for. Chicago Tribune’s David Herbling spent the day enjoying the festival, tasting through 200 vibrant Riojas, enjoying Rioja-inspired tapas and interviewing winemakers and Rioja principals. Ana: I too love getting outside in the warm weather! One of the beauties of Rioja wines is truly the diversity of styles that our queen grape Tempranillo enables us to produce. It ranges from young wines to aged wines and collectibles. If I had a boat, I would definitely stock up on some 2014 Rioja Rosados that would shine and delight the palate in the sea breeze of the Long Island Sound. Some to look for are Marqués de Cáceres, El Coto, Muga, Faustino, CUNE and Vivanco, but there are many more. A Rioja rosé hits that perfect summer spot. Have fun!
