Here are the four exciting new Biale wines that are on their way to you….

  • 2010 Stagecoach Vineyards Zinfandel
  • 2009 Basic Black Red Wine
  • 2009 Like Father Like Son Red Wine
  • 2010 Rocky Ridge – Rockpile Zinfandel

We are proud and excited to be releasing the first Zinfandels from the 2010 Vintage – we worked hard for this one. We just wish there was more to go around. You see, an obnoxious, uninvited guest showed up and crashed into our big ol’ 2010 punch bowl. Yes, some punch was lost, but the good news is we saved the party. Now the music starts and the fun begins because what we have for you right now is dee-licious.

2010 Stagecoach Vineyards Zinfandel

Napa Valley

[Included in the May 7th BCS Box #2.]

Taking Zin to the next stage…

Robert Biale Vineyards is most proud of this project – the most significant planting of Zinfandel in Napa Valley in the modern era. Planted on the classic old-fashioned rootstock, St. George, and grafted with old vine selections from Aldo’s Vineyard and Dr. Crane’s original ranch,Stagecoach is a re-creation of Zinfandel of the pioneer era. Dense, rich stone fruit: plum, black cherry, cherry candy and apricot. Bramble fruit, earthy sagebrush/chapparal, clove, chalky, minerals, caressing tannins.
Mountain-raised, and making the torturous struggle to slowly ripen grapes, the vines at Stagecoach are producing Zinfandels that would make the Zinfandel forefathers proud and delight the avid fans of this legacy to America’s viticultural origins.

2010 Rocky Ridge Vineyards Zinfandel

Rockpile Appellation

[Included in the May 7th BCS Box #2.]

Zin…On the Rocks.

The Mauritsons need to rename their amazing vineyard Rockin’ Ridge! This is some of the most stunning Zinfandel fruit we work with.
Located high above Lake Sonoma and beyond Dry Creek Valley, this vineyard is operated by a ranching family that goes back six – count ‘em, six!-generations. That’s pioneer cred. The Mauritsons have helped to make the tiny Rockpile Appellation in a relatively short time about the most highly regarded and sought-after Zinfandel source in California.
Right up front, quartz-like crystalline stone and pure berry aromas give way to minerals, graphite, toasted pecan and subtle brown spices and yet more intense fruit notes such as dry apricot, citrus, boysenberry, and black raspberry. This is a cohesive and solidly-built Zinfandel to keep and enjoy over the next 5 to 7 years. $45.

2009 Like Father Like Son

Napa Valley Proprietary Red Wine

Petite Sirah, Syrah, Zinfandel

[Included in the May 7th BCS Box #2.]

Capturing Napa’s Essence.

In this wine, 2009 Like Father Like Son, we feel that we have captured the textural beauty of a classic Napa Valley red wine: firm but ripe tannins, a broad center palate, a long finish, fresh acidity, and just enough alcoholic sweetness to pull it all together in an integrated and cohesive way. The fruit synergy of Syrah (father) and Petite Sirah (son) with a hint of Zinfandel offers an olfactory weaving of berry compote, blueberries, black currants, bramble berry patch, charcuterie, black olive, dried citrus, clove and graham cracker. The dense, round and relaxed structure and deep character of this wine are well – suited to immediate imbibing or longer term aging for the next 10-15 years. It is a small quantity – time is of the essence.

2009 Basic Black

North Coast Proprietary Red Wine

aka "Biale-Rhoney"

Basic Black: Classy, Elegant, Timeless, and Always in Style.

2009 Basic Black was carefully put together by Biale winemaker Steve Hall using six different varieties from eight different vineyards – all in varying percentages. Steve says he was looking for open-ness, approachability, "sweet-tempered tannins," and a signature Biale yumminess factor. He nailed it.

The entry is soft and gentle and the aromatics are vibrant (thank you, Grenache and Mourvedre). Then the textural center palate is packed with black fruit and berry flavors (Petite Sirah, Syrah), a little zesty fruit and cinnamon spice (Barbera), and then they combine for a harmonious, lingering fruit finish that lasts a long count. This is a red wine with multiple and complex components that meshes into something that is beautifully proportioned, sensuous, and inviting to drink. Basic Black: classy, elegant, timeless, and always in style.
