A private temperature-controlled cellar commands center stage in The Rare Wine Room at the St. Helena Wine Merchants and with good reason. This "Rare Room" contains over 600 bottles of the most rare and celebrated wines anywhere in the country.
Selected from the extensive collection of outstanding sources, the names include a veritable "who’s who" of the classics like Harlan Estate, Sine Qua Non and Screaming Eagle.
The Napa Valley cabernet sauvignons are well represented in the glorious vintages of 1997, 1994, 1991 and 1987.
We even have the young California cult wines like Hundred Acre, Dunn Howell Mountain Cabernet and Turley Zinfandels. While the Marcassin and Aubert wines share space with the magnificent Ornellaia of Italy and Torbreck and Run Rig, Shiraz of Australia.
Mesage In A Bottle: Sting
Sting, the lead singer of the Police, has been quietly been making wine, having bought a 16th century villa, called Il Palagio, in Figline Valdarno, a small village some 15 miles south of Florence in 1997. Over the years he has turned the surrounding 860 acres into an organic farm that also produces honey, olive oil, fruit, vegetables and Tuscan salami. The wine is produced on 98 acres of vineyards and is named I Serrestori after the former owners who were silk merchants. Up until now it was made just for friends and family, each bottle being numbered and signed like limited edition prints.
