There are many exciting things beginning to transform in the vineyard, winery and surface of Linne Calodo. The vineyards have started their yearly march toward sugar production and coloration, aka veraison. The flavors, aromas, passion and sweat all help form what is sure to be another memorable season this harvest. The anticipation of the crush pad coming to life with a bunch of colorful characters (cellar rats) is just one of those things that makes me feel alive inside.
On the surface of Linne Calodo, we are changing our look again, not our wine. For me, labels progressing over time is just as natural as aging. I go through periods of time where a label fits the mentality of the wine for that period. The mentality is driven by vineyard practices, cellar philosophy, growing up, and my current mindset. Each new label is derived from the same vineyard sites as the respective wine; they represent an organic creativity of who, how, and what our wines mean to me. I think you will find that the new labels help bring the wines to life and I’m so excited to share them with you.

Rising Tides
54% GRENACHE, 30% Mourvèdre, 14% syrah, 2% TANNAt
Bright ripe strawberries and candied cherries lead this vibrant blend of Willow Creek District fruit. In 2015, we faced a deep reduction in yields of Syrah, but Grenache took the opportunity to jump to the head of the class, leading this blend. Healthy acidity comes across with notes of rhubarb, violets and blood orange. Soft aromas of sandalwood intermingle with the delicacy of falling rose petals. Chalky tannins pay homage to the calcareous mudstone and shale the vines have been raised in. Aged in a 3000L French oak foudre and a 2000L concrete tank. Drink now through 2024.

V. 2015
Outsider
78% Zinfandel, 10% Mourvèdre, 7% syrah, 5% Tannat
Always a favorite for the holidays, 2015 Outsider comes in with focused bold flavors. Espresso, dark chocolate and coconut define this rich, ripe Zinfandel blend. Notes of Christmas spices draw you in as you pull out the cinnamon, cardamom and cloves. One of our first picks each year, this dry-farmed Zinfandel field faces south by southeast with the morning sun quickly pushing it toward ripeness. Despite being aromatically explosive with a luscious palate, it is the long and lingering finish of ripe strawberries and coffee beans that will keep this wine on your mind all season long. Drink now through 2020.

V. 2015
Cherry Red
70% zinfandel, 22% Mourvèdre, 8% syrah
Filled with voluptuous red cherry notes on the nose and palate, Cherry Red is a yearly expression of the land it comes from. Planted in 1977 and farmed without irrigation, these vines grow our smallest and perhaps most coveted Zinfandel blend. Cedar box and tobacco leaf, decadent ripe red fruit, fresh new leather and soft hints of eucalyptus converge in a wine that dances its way through your body like a silk scarf tossed in the air. Drink now through 2020.

V. 2014
In My Dreams
35% Tempranillo, 30% Grenache, 25% Mourvèdre, 10% Tannat
Tempranillo enters the main stage in this new blend of Linne Calodo Estate fruit. Heartier than a classic GSM with both Tempranillo and Tannat in the mix, this wine shows pomegranate compote, dried black cherries, cinnamon sticks and an iron rich minerality. The longer it lingers in your glass, the deeper and more complex the aromatics and flavors become. Right now, this beautiful blend shows notes of graham cracker alongside tobacco leaf and smoked meats. Boysenberries and bubblegum candies uplift, while cocoa nibs and rich dark chocolate take up the counter balance. Incredibly food friendly, drink now through 2022.
