SIDEWAYS-2004-20th Century Fox- Starring Paul Giamatti, Thomas Haden Church, Virginia Madsen and Sandra Oh. This movie started the run on and spike in prices for Pinot Noir and and the decline of Merlot sales. Very funny movie, allot of views of vineyards, tasting rooms (most were in the Santa Barbara area of California) and drinking of wine. Theme is a wine-tasting road trip through California’s famed Central Coast takes an unexpected detour as Miles (Paul Giamatti) and Jack (Thomas Haden Church) hit the gas en route to their mid-life crisis. The comically mismatched pair soon find themselves drowning in wine, women and laughter.
BOTTLE SHOCK-2008-20TH CENTURY FOX- Starring Dennis Farina, Bill Pullman, Alan Rickman, and Eliza Dushku. This movie is about some of the wineries whose wines were involved in “The Paris Tasting of 1976” which changed the California wine scene in the 1970’s when a special wine tasting event was held in Paris, France. The event was to tie into the Bi-Centennial and was French vs California Wines held in a blind tasting where California wines unexpectedly won the white and red category. Enjoying movie, funny with many great scenes of vineyards and the work involved with owning a winery. Movie changed the real story some if you have ever read the book on the tasting event.
