Volume 2, Issue 2

Hello Yates Family Friends,

We are pleased to bring you another edition of our quarterly newsletter. Okay, so it has been about five months since our last newsletter but at last, here it is!!! The rains have finally subsided and the warm weather is upon us. With a recent wine club shipment getting out to our members we can sit back and enjoy our new release of our 2008 Cheval (Cabernet Franc). Well maybe not so much sit back and enjoy, but definitely enjoy…there is just not a lot of time to sit back right now with our vineyard thriving and it is all hands on deck to tend to them!!!

Also, the date has been set for our Wine Club Party. Join our Wine Club and be a part of this lovely event with friends, catered food, music and of course Yates Family Vineyard wines. If you have any questions about this event please contact our winery.

Cheers,
Mike, Lynn, Whitney, Mary, and Todd

A VIEW FROM THE VINEYARD 2011
by Michael Yates

With rain in the most recent month it has been another exciting start to our summer. We had full bloom about three weeks ago and are now seeing clusters of little grapes showing a good fruit set. The vines are growing at a quick pace and we are busy, busy, busy. The vineyard crew and family are working hard on canopy management, weed control, training our new vines, and trying to keep up with all the work.

With warm weather approaching we still anticipate harvest in October. Steady summer temperatures in the mid 80s would be ideal and put us into a great growing pattern. If you get a chance to visit, we would love to show you the developing clusters of berries and how our new Malbec vines are coming along.

CELLAR RAT UPDATE 2011
by Whitney Yates Hanes

June is always an exciting time for us as we put our wines in the bottle. The 2009 red wines and our lonely 2010 Viognier tasted amazing prior to bottling and will only develop better with a little time. On June 17th we bottled just over 600 cases and have added a new wine to our portfolio. The 2009 Sisters is a Wine Club exclusive wine and we can’t wait to taste it after it has some time to age.

Since both the 2009 and 2010 vintages were a little light, we have decide to take more fruit from the ranch and ramp up our productions levels just a bit. In order to do that we have purchased a few more oak barrels this year than in the past. They are empty and eagerly waiting to be filled with the upcoming 2011 wines.

NEW RELEASE – 2008 Cheval (Cabernet Franc)
