Movie studios let you see trailers before you spend $15 on a ticket and two hours in a sticky-floored room with strangers, right? Wine shops, however, rarely pour a precious drop before selling you a wine you might not even like.
Sure, some shops have Enomatic machines that pour you a splash, or maybe they open a bottle or two for daily tastings. At best, though, you’ll get a chance to try five of the 100 different grapes and regions represented on the shelf – and be left guessing about the other 95 and the kinds of wine you actually like.
